Title: MPlayer 'demux_mov.c' Remote Code Execution Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

MPlayer is an application for playing movies; it runs on Linux operating systems.

The application is prone to a remote code-execution vulnerability because it fails to handle specially crafted 'MOV' files. This issue affects the 'libmpdemux' library from the 'demux_mov.c' source file and occurs because of an arbitrary pointer dereference. Certain tags on 'MOV' files aren't sanitized before using them to index heap memory. Attackers can trigger this issue by opening a malicious 'MOV' file.

An attacker can exploit this issue to execute arbitrary code, which can result in the complete compromise of the computer. Failed exploit attempts will result in a denial-of-service condition.

This issue affects MPlayer 1.0rc2; other versions may also be affected.
