Title: DQS dsh Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
The Distributed Queueing System (DQS) is a management tool to aid in computational resource distribution across a network. It is designed to support sending serial and parallel jobs to a cluster of workstations.
A buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the 'dsh' utility program included with DQS. The bug exists because no bounds checking is performed when arguments are read from the command line. By supplying a long string as the first argument to the program, it is possible to overflow a statically allocated buffer.
Because the 'dsh' program is installed setuid root with some packages, it may be possible for a local attacker to gain root privileges.
Affected Products:
- FSU DQS 3.2.7
- S.u.S.E. Linux 6.3.0
- S.u.S.E. Linux 6.4.0
- S.u.S.E. Linux 7.0.0
