Title: eEye Digital Security SecureIIS Attack Detection ByPass Vulnerability

Severity: CRITICAL

Description:

SecureIIS is an application firewall by eEye Digital Security. It is designed to protect a host using Microsoft IIS from numerous remote attacks such as, buffer overflows, directory traversals, format bugs, etc. Often attacks contain a recognizable string of characters, or 'payloads', in the exploit data. SecureIIS is designed to detect and prevent common 'payloads' from being sent to the protected web server.

SecureIIS fails to decode URL encoded characters before comparing them to its database of malicious attack 'signatures'. As a result, URL encoded attacks will not be detected by SecureIIS.

It should be noted that if appropriate patches are installed on IIS which correspond to the nature of the attack, successful exploitation of existing IIS exploits may be hindered.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could assist in further attacks of the host and possibly lead to a complete compromise.

Affected Products:

  • eEye Digital Security SecureIIS 1.0.2
  • eEye Digital Security SecureIIS 1.0.3
