Title: Apache Web Server HTTP Request Denial of Service Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
Apache Web Server is a freely available, open source software package developed and actively maintained by the Apache Software Foundation. The Apache Webserver is a robust, highly configurable, scalable webserver with high deployment and popularity.
A vulnerability exists in Apache Web Server which could cause a denial of service.
An HTTP request composed of unusual amounts of data could cause various effects on the host. Sending a request composed of 8190 bytes, will cause an idle user connection and the administrator will be alerted. Approximately 100 requests of 8192 bytes will cause the host to consume all available memory, leading the host to eventually crash.
The outcome of the attack is dependant on the amount of data submitted and the platform which Apache is running.
A restart of the server is required in order to gain normal functionality.
