Title: Citrix Presentation Server IMA Service Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
Citrix Presentation Server provides remote application access using the ICA protocol. It uses the IMA (Independent Management Architecture) service for inter-server and management communications.
Citrix Presentation Server is prone to a buffer-overflow vulnerability because the application fails to properly bounds-check user-supplied input before copying it to an insufficiently sized memory buffer.
Specifically, the issue arises when IMA service ('ImaSrv.exe') uses user-supplied input to determine memory allocation. Remote attackers can exploit this issue by sending a specially crafted packet to the IMA server.
NOTE: To exploit this issue, the attacker would need access to IMA service over TCP ports 2512 or 2513. The vendor reports that in typical deployments of the servers, these ports would not be externally accessible.
Successful exploits of this issue may allow attackers to execute arbitrary machine code in the context of the IMA server process. Failed exploit attempts will likely result in denial-of-service conditions.
The issue affects the following versions:
Citrix MetaFrame and Presentation Server 4.5 (and earlier)
Citrix Access Essentials 2.0 (and earlier)
Citrix Desktop Server 1.0 (and earlier)
Affected Products:
- Citrix Access Essentials 1.0
