Title: McAfee Remote Desktop Denial of Service Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

McAfee Remote Desktop is a utility for allowing users to remotely connect to Microsoft Windows 9x/ME/NT systems.

McAfee Remote Desktop uses ports 5044 and 5045 to send and receive data. If a large number of packets are sent to port 5045, the application will temporarily not respond. It has been reported that in some cases, a manual restart is required. This may be due to a buffer overflow condition, however this is not confirmed.

Repeated attacks may result in a prolonged denial of service.

Affected Products:

  • McAfee Remote Desktop 32 2.1.2
  • McAfee Remote Desktop 32 3.0.0
