Title: Becky! Internet Mail Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

Becky! Internet Mail is a shareware mail client.

Becky! Internet Mail contains three possibly exploitable buffer overflow conditions. The overflows have been reported to occur during message composition and message forwarding. Both of these actions must be performed by the user using the MUA.

During composition, if a message is created with more than 65536 characters before a newline, an overflow occurs and the program crashes. The same behaviour is present if a message consisting of 8188 characters before a newline is forwarded to another email address.

It may be possible for attackers to construct messages which may allow for exploitation of the overflow conditions on victim systems using Becky! Internet Mail.

If attackers compose a malicious message which a target user replies to or forwards, it may be possible to exploit this vulnerability 'remotely' if the message length can be controlled or predicted. The most realistic way this may be exploited is if a target user forwards the malicious message, since the length of text contained in an actual ' reply' is unknown.

Exploitation may allow remote attackers to gain access to the recipient's host.
