Title: IRIX rpc.espd Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: CRITICAL

Description:

Embedded Support Partner (ESP) is an infrastructure that is integrated into the IRIX operating system for the purposes of support. It was first introduced in IRIX version 6.5.5.

The ESP daemon, rpc.espd, contains a buffer overflow vulnerability that may allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target host. The vulnerability is due to unsafe handling of externally-supplied data.

The ESP daemon runs with root privileges. Successful exploitation would result in a complete compromise of the system.

Furher technical details are forthcoming.

Affected Products:

  • SGI IRIX 6.5.5
  • SGI IRIX 6.5.6
  • SGI IRIX 6.5.7
  • SGI IRIX 6.5.8
