Title: IncrediMail Ltd. IncrediMail File Overwrite Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
IncrediMail is a free email program with an animated interface, it enables a user to add animated graphics to email messages. IncrediMail is provided by IncrediMail Ltd.
A vulnerability exists in IncrediMail which could enable a remote user to overwrite a known file residing on the host.
It may be possible for attackers to create malicious 'skin' files that will cause arbitrary files on the same drive as Incredimail to be overwritten when the skin is loaded.
If the filenames of the image files in the skin contain '../' characters, the path will be traversed and files outside of Incredimail's directory will be overwritten. If an attacker can create a malicious skin file with '../' relative paths to known files, it is possible to overwrite them and possibly cause a denial of service. If an attacker can control the contents of these files, it may be possible for them to gain access to the target host.
This vulnerability may be exploited if an attacker places a skin file on a web-site or attaches it to an email message. If a client downloads and attempts to use the skin file, the attack will occur.
