Title: Georgia SoftWorks Secure Shell Server Multiple Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities

Severity: CRITICAL

Description:

Georgia SoftWorks Secure Shell Server is a commercially available SSH server for Microsoft Windows.

The application is prone to multiple remote code-execution vulnerabilities:

- A format-string vulnerability occurs in the application's logging function. The application passes user-supplied data as a part of the format-specifier argument of a 'vsprintf()' function. Attackers may exploit this by sending percent sequences in the username when connecting to vulnerable servers.

- A buffer-overflow vulnerability occurs in the application's logging function. By passing usernames longer than 10000 bytes, an attacker can cause an internal memory buffer to be overrun.

- A buffer-overflow vulnerability occurs in the password-handling functionality. By sending passwords longer than 800 bytes, an attacker can cause an internal memory buffer to be overrun.

Successfully exploiting these issues allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary machine code with SYSTEM-level privileges, facilitating the complete compromise of affected computers.

Georgia SoftWorks Secure Shell Server 7.01.0003 is vulnerable to these issues; other versions may also be affected.

Affected Products:

  • Georgia SoftWorks Secure Shell Server 7.01.0003
