Title: ElectroSoft ElectroComm Denial of Service Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

ElectroComm is a telnet-comm port server for Windows 9x/NT, allowing users to connect a PC's comm port to a TCP/IP network and login remotely using Telnet.

The ElectroComm Telnet service listens for incoming connection on TCP port 23.

An attacker can execute a denial of service attack on the ElectroComm service by submitting two groups of approximately 160,000 characters to the target's telnet port.

This increases CPU utilization to 100%, and crashes the ElectroComm service, which reports 'Run-time error 381' / 'Invalid array index.'

Affected Products:

  • ElectroSoft ElectroComm 1.0.0
  • ElectroSoft ElectroComm 2.0.0
