Title: SkyFex Client ActiveX Control 'start' Method Stack Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

SkyFex Client enables web-based monitoring and control of remote computers via the SkyFex Remote Assistant service.

SkyFex Client is prone to a stack-based buffer-overflow vulnerability because it fails to perform adequate boundary checks on user-supplied input before copying it to an insufficiently sized memory buffer.

This issue affects the 'start' method of the 'SkyFexClient.ocx' ActiveX control when handling excessively long arguments. The ActiveX control is identified by CLSID: F84E0B64-1E86-4640-8094-5B38CEB28C1E.

Attackers can exploit this issue to execute arbitrary code in the context of the application using the affected control (typically Internet Explorer). Successful attacks can compromise the application and possibly the underlying computer. Failed attacks will likely cause denial-of-service conditions.

SkyFex Client 1.0.2.77 is vulnerable; other versions may also be affected.

Affected Products:

  • SkyFex SkyFex Client 1.0.2.77
