Title: T. Hauck Jana Server Hex Encoded Directory Traversal Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

A vulnerability exists in Jana Server which could enable a remote user to gain access to arbitrary directories and files residing on the host.

A specially crafted URL using hex encoded 'double dot' sequences will reveal arbitrary directories on the host filesystem. For example:

www.example.com/%2e%2e/%2e%2e/%2e%2e/

In addition to traversing arbitrary directories, this flaw could enable the attacker to disclose files readable by the webserver user, potentially compromising the privacy of user data and/or obtaining information which could be used to further undermine the host's security.

Successfully exploited, this vulnerability could lead to the disclosure of sensitive information which may assist in further attacks against the host.

Affected Products:

  • T. Hauck Jana Webserver 1.45.0
  • T. Hauck Jana Webserver 1.46.0
