Title: WinUAE 'zfile.c' Stack-Based Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

WinUAE is an Amiga emulator for Windows.

WinUAE is prone to a local stack-based buffer-overflow vulnerability because it fails to properly bounds-check user-supplied data before copying it to an insufficiently sized buffer.

WinUAE supports gzip-compressed files. The function responsible for decompressing a gzipped archive ('zfile_gunzip()' in the source file 'zfile.c') copies the filename in the archive to a memory buffer without checking its length.

An attacker can exploit this issue to execute arbitrary code in the context of the affected application. Failed exploit attempts will result in denial-of-service conditions.

This issue affects versions prior to WinUAE 1.4.5.

Affected Products:

  • WinUAE WinUAE 1.4.4
