Title: Apple MacOS Multiple Users Password Bypass Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
MacOS implements secure support for a system hosting many users by means of the Multiple Users program.
Versions of MacOS 9 contain a flaw allowing this program's restrictions to be entirely bypassed.
A local user may exploit this vulnerability to read or write arbitrary files, user configurations, file permissions and passwords, with no authentication required.
This also permits the hostile user to reconfigure the system to subsequently restart without Multiple Users support enabled, circumventing the password requirement and its attendant security features.
Affected Products:
- Apple Mac OS 9 9.0.0
