Title: gFTP Remote Format String Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

gFTP is a freely available ftp client with a graphical user interface for UNIX based machines running X11R6 or later. It includes support for file transfers using the FTP, HTTP, and SSH protocols.

A format string bug exists in the facility used by the gftp
client program to log FTP and HTTP responses.

The problem is the result of server responses being passed directly as part of a string format argument to a *printf() function. By supplying malicious format specifiers in the string, it is possible to cause the function to overwrite portions of the program's memory and alter the flow of execution.

If successful, an attacker can have arbitrary code executed with the privileges of the user running the ftp client.
