Title: IBM Director CIM Server Remote Denial of Service Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
IBM Director is an application that can track and view system configurations of remote computers. It is available for Linux, AIX, and Windows servers.
The CIM Server from the IBM Director suite is prone to a remote denial-of-service vulnerability because the application fails to properly handle multiple simultaneous network connections.
The CIM Server uses one thread per incoming network connection. If an attacker issues a connection without sending the expected data, the thread will not be terminated. While the thread is waiting for the client's response, it will consume excessive CPU resources.
By issuing multiple simultaneous connections, attackers may consume excessive CPU and memory resources, eventually leading to server crashes, which would deny further service to legitimate users.
IBM Director 5.20.1 and prior versions on Linux and Microsoft Windows platforms are affected.
Affected Products:
- IBM Director
- IBM Director 3.1.0
- IBM Director 5.10
- IBM Director 5.10.3
- IBM Director 5.20.1
