Title: Viking Server SMTP Username Enumeration Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

Viking Server is a multipurpose server product for Windows which provides SMTP mail service.

Versions of Viking Server enable SMTP commands which can be used to remotely verify usernames on the server.

VRFY queries the server with a potential username. If the supplied name matches an account on the system, the user's supplied full name and mailbox information are returned.

Similarly, EXPN queries the server the receiver to confirm the name of a mailing list. If the query matches, the server will disclose the membership of that list, including users' full names and mailbox information.

This information could assist in further compromise of the host.

No method is reportedly available for disabling these commands.

Affected Products:

  • RobTex Viking Server 1.0.5
  • RobTex Viking Server 1.0.6
  • RobTex Viking Server 1.0.7
