Title: eIQnetworks Enterprise Security Analyzer SEARCHREPORT Command Remote Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

eIQnetworks Enterprise Security Analyzer is a distributed application for enterprise security. It provides security information, event and asset management, as well as threat visualization across a network. It is available for Microsoft Windows platforms.

The application is prone to a remote buffer-overflow vulnerability because it fails to properly bounds-check user-supplied data before copying it into an insufficiently sized memory buffer.

Specifically, attackers can exploit this vulnerability in the ESA server by sending malicious data over TCP port 10616. This data can be sent as part of the 'SEARCHREPORT' command. When the application handles the payload, which contains excessively long arguments, a stack-based buffer-overflow occurs.

Exploiting this issue allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code in the context of the affected application. Failed exploit attempts will likely result in denial-of-service conditions.

This issue affects Enterprise Security Analyzer 2.5; other versions may also be vulnerable.

Affected Products:

  • eIQnetworks Enterprise Security Analyzer 2.5
