Title: Qualcomm Eudora File Attachment Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
Eudora is a popular graphical e-mail client for Windows computers offered for free by Qualcomm.
Eudora could be led to attach a file without the user specifying one. When a file attachment is received in Eudora, it is automatically saved in the 'Attachments' directory. When forwarding a message, certain versions of Eudora will not keep the file attachment appended to the message, requiring the user to re-attach the file. More recent versions of Eudora keep attachments with the message when the message is being forwarded.
An attacker could compose an email with the body of the message containing a reference to a known file residing on the user's system 'Attachment Converted: drive:\knownfilename'. If the user forwards the message without removing the original message body containing 'Attachment Converted: drive:\knownfilename', the specified recipient could receive the 'knownfilename' as an attachment.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could lead to the disclosure of sensitive data and may assist in further attacks against the victim.
Affected Products:
- Qualcomm Eudora 5.0.2
- Qualcomm Eudora 5.1.0
