Title: Microsoft Windows Recursive DNS Spoofing Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

Microsoft Windows DNS Server is prone to a vulnerability that permits an attacker to spoof responses to DNS requests.

This issue occurs because the affected service fails to provide enough entropy when randomizing transaction values that are used in recursive DNS requests. This enables attackers to spoof legitimate responses to recursive DNS requests, potentially poisoning the cache of a vulnerable DNS server.

A successful attack will corrupt the DNS cache with attacker-specified content. This may aid in further attacks such as phishing.
