Title: NCM Content Management System content.pl Input Validation Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

The NCM Content Management System is a product distributed by NCM. The NCM Content Management System is designed to manage web material and other data, and provide an interface to databases from web resources.

A problem with the CGI infrastructure in the package could allow remote users to gather information about the database backend, and additionally query individual tables. It is also reported that database administrative functions may be executed, although this claim is unverified.

A default deployment of the NCM Content Management System produces debugging messages upon receiving invalid queries. By requesting a valid URL, then placing a request for the same URL with any character appended, it is possible to produce an error message with information about the table the information in contained in.

Additionally, insufficient validation of input is performed by the content.pl script when a query is received from a client. It is possible to piggy back more queries onto a valid query using the greater than and less than signs, due to improper checking of input, and stripping of potentially dangerous characters. By placing a valid SQL request, and embedding other queries between < and > signs, it's possible to obtain a view of all records contained within a specific table.
