Title: Lotus Domino R5 Server MS-DOS Device DoS Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
Lotus Domino is a multiplatform web server which integrates messaging and various interactive web applications.
Versions prior to 5.0.7 in a Windows or OS2 environment are subject to a denial of service.
This denial of service results from an inability to process numerous requests using MS-DOS device names. By default, Lotus Domino web services reside on port 80. If the attacker makes the MS-DOS device request numerous times (approx 400) through cgi-bin, ncgihttp.exe will handle the request.
For each request made a seperate ncgihttp.exe will launch. Eventually, this process will consume all available system resources, causing the server to deny further HTTP requests.
It should be noted that exploiting this issue through CGI calls is only one method. Other methods may exist but have not been reported.
A restart of the service is required in order to gain normal functionality.
Affected Products:
- Lotus Domino 5.0.1
- Lotus Domino 5.0.2
- Lotus Domino 5.0.3
- Lotus Domino 5.0.4
- Lotus Domino 5.0.5
- Lotus Domino 5.0.6
