Title: Lotus Domino Web Server HTTP Header DoS Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

Lotus Domino is a multiplatform web server which integrates messaging and various interactive web applications.

Due to the handling of unusual input in various HTTP headers, a denial of service condition exists in Lotus Domino server.

The HTTP headers involved in this issue are 'Accept', 'Accept-Charset', 'Accept-Encoding',
'Accept-Language' and 'Content-Type'.

Submitting numerous requests with unusual data contained in one of these headers will cause the server to consume all available system memory. Following a successful attack, the server will refuse any new connections and will discontinue processing user requests. This consumption of available resources will eventually cause the server to crash and possibly other applications depending on it. An error message similar to the following will appear:

'HTTP Server: Could allocate 8036 bytes of memoryOut of memory in HTMemPoolAlloc (file htmpool.c, line 506).Program aborted.'

A restart of the server is required in order to gain normal functionality.

Affected Products:

  • Lotus Domino 5.0.1
  • Lotus Domino 5.0.2
  • Lotus Domino 5.0.3
  • Lotus Domino 5.0.4
  • Lotus Domino 5.0.5
  • Lotus Domino 5.0.6
