Title: Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 VBP_Open Project File Handling Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 is a development platform for building applications on Microsoft platforms.

Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 is prone to a buffer-overflow vulnerability because it fails to bounds-check user-supplied data before copying it into an insufficiently sized buffer. Specifically, the issue is related to 'VBP_Open' and occurs when the application processes a specially crafted VBP file.

Attackers can exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code within the context of the affected application by supplying a malicious Visual Basic project ('.vbp') file. Failed exploit attempts will result in a denial of service.

Affected Products:

  • Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0
