Title: Apache Tomcat 3.0 Directory Traversal Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
Apache Tomcat in a Windows NT environment could be led to traverse the normal directory structure and return files from outside of the document root.
By including '/../' and sequences along with specially chosen characters '%2e' and '%00' in requested URLs, a remote user could gain read access to directories and files outside of the application's normal directory structure, potentially compromising the privacy of user data and/or obtaining information which could be used to further compromise the host's security.
Submitting a URL with '%5c' appended to a known filename will reveal the file itself.
If successfully exploited this vulnerability could lead to the disclosure of sensitive information assisting in further attacks against the host.
Affected Products:
- Apache Software Foundation Tomcat 3.0.0
- Apache Software Foundation Tomcat 3.2.1
