Title: Junsoft JSparm Logging Output File Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

JSparm is the Junsoft Performance Analysis Report Maker package. This software package provides an enhanced perfmon performance monitoring package and interface, as well as a performance report generation interface.

A problem in the JSparm package makes it possible for users with local access and the ability to execute the perfmon program included with JSparm to gain elevated privileges. The source of the problem is the logging function of the perfmon program included with JSparm.

JSparm includes a perfmon utility designed to offer enhanced performance monitoring features. One such feature is the logging facility included with the perfmon package. A user can execute perfmon from the command line, and create a log of all the activity monitored by perfmon.

However, this logging feature does not adequately check the permissions of files nor input of the user prior to beginning logging. perfmon is installed SUID, and upon being supplied a file extension, will create the log file in the specified place with permissions of 0666, owned by root and group member of the user executing perfmon.

Affected Products:

  • Junsoft parm 4.0.0
