Title: BlueSkyChat ActiveX Control Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
BlueSkyChat is an ActiveX control used by several third-party web-based chat server sites.
BlueSkyChat ActiveX control is prone to a buffer-overflow vulnerability because it fails to bounds-check user-supplied data before copying it into an insufficiently sized buffer.
Specifically, the second argument to the 'ConnecttoServer()' method of the ActiveX control fails to adequately bounds-check user-supplied input. An argument of approximately 10000 bytes will overrun a buffer and corrupt memory in a manner that allows attackers to execute code.
The vulnerable code resides in the 'v2.ocx' file and has a CLSID of 2EA6D939-4445-43F1-A12B-8CB3DDA8B855.
Successfully exploiting this issue allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code in the context of the application using the ActiveX control (typically Internet Explorer). Failed exploit attempts likely result in denial-of-service conditions.
BlueSkyChat ActiveX control 8.1.2.0 is vulnerable to this issue; other versions may also be affected.
