Title: Apache Tomcat SendMailServlet Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

Apache Tomcat is a Java-based webserver application for multiple operating systems.

Apache Tomcat SendMailServlet is prone to a cross-site scripting vulnerability because the application fails to properly sanitize user-supplied input. An attacker can exploit this issue by supplying arbitrary HTML and script through the 'From' field when sending an email using the 'examples/jsp/mail/sendmail.jsp' script.

The attacker may leverage this issue to execute arbitrary script code in the browser of an unsuspecting user in the context of the affected site. This may help the attacker steal cookie-based authentication credentials and launch other attacks.

This issue affects the following versions of Tomcat:

4.0.0 to 4.0.6
4.1.0 to 4.1.36

NOTE: Apache Tomcat SendMailServlet is an example application. It is not intended for production environments.
