Title: Qualcomm Eudora 'Use Microsoft Viewer' Code Execution Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
Eudora is an email program for the Windows platform. Eudora uses Internet Explorer to assist in the viewing of html messages if the 'Use Microsoft Viewer' option is enabled. Eudora also has an 'allow executables in HTML content' option, which the documentation recommends be disabled for security reasons. It is possible for an attacker to excecute arbitrary code on a remote system even if 'allow executables in HTML content' is disabled, if the 'Use Microsoft viewer' option is enabled.
Message attachments get stored in the C:\windows\application\qualcomm\eudora\Embedded\ folder. By embedding script commands in the "style" option of an image tag, and possible by other means as well, it is possible to reference these attachments for execution if the path to the "embedded" folder is known. This code will be exceuted regardless of the state of the 'allow executables in HTML content' option.
Opening the email would trigger this issue even if the attachment itself hasn't been accessed by the user.
It should be noted that this vulnerability has only been tested on Eudora Sponsored mode, other versions of Eudora may be subject to this issue.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could lead to complete comprimise of the host.
