Title: policyd W_Read Function Remote Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
The policyd daemon is an antispam plugin for Postfix.
The daemon is prone to a remote buffer-overflow vulnerability because it fails to properly check boundaries on user-supplied data before using it in a finite-sized buffer.
An attacker may exploit this vulnerability by sending a large amount of data to the vulnerable application. The specific issue resides in the 'w_read()' function of 'sockets.c'; the attacker can exploit this by sending specially crafted SMTP commands.
Attackers can exploit this issue to execute arbitrary machine code in the context of the affected database server. Failed exploit attempts will likely crash the server, denying service to legitimate users.
Versions prior to policyd 1.81 are affected.
Affected Products:
- policyd policyd 1.80
