Title: INDEXU Authentication Bypass Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

INDEXU is a web content management system designed for designing and administering a web "portal" site. It uses MySQL databases and a web-based administration interface.

By manipulating the cookies used by INDEXU, it is possible for a remote attacker to assume INDEXU administrator's privileges.

When a remote administrator connects to an INDEXU site, a cookie is created which identifies this user as an INDEXU admin. The cookie is deleted upon the admin's logout.

A remote user can create a properly-formatted cookie with the cookie_admin_authenticated flag value set to 1.

Upon connecting to the INDEXU management interface, this cookie will be checked. Under these circumstances, any user having the administrator account name and password, and the admin cookie, will be incorrectly authenticated as the INDEXU admin.

This can permit modification of the site's functionality and potentially further undermine the security of the vulnerable host.

Affected Products:

  • Sentraweb IndexU 1.0.0
  • Sentraweb IndexU 1.1.0
  • Sentraweb IndexU 2.0.0
