Title: W3Filer Banner Handling Remote Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
W3Filer is a web-based file-transfer client that supports FTP and HTTP protocols.
The application is prone to a remote buffer-overflow vulnerability because it fails to bounds-check user-supplied data before copying it into an insufficiently sized buffer.
Specifically, this issue occurs when the application receives an overly large banner while attempting to send a file; as a result, EIP is overwritten.
Attackers may exploit this issue by enticing victims into using the affected application to connect to a malicious site.
Attackers can exploit this issue to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user running the application. Failed attempts will likely cause denial-of-service conditions.
W3Filer 2.1.3 is vulnerable; other versions may also be affected.
