Title: Apple Safari for Windows Bookmark Title Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

Safari is a browser from Apple available for Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows.

Safari for Windows is prone to a buffer-overflow vulnerability. This issue is triggered when an attacker entices a victim to bookmark a maliciously crafted site.

Specifically, the vulnerability occurs when the affected browser adds a bookmark containing an excessively large title of 1024 bytes or more. This causes memory to become corrupted in a manner that could be leveraged by an attacker to manipulate the application's normal flow of execution.

Remote attackers may exploit this issue to execute arbitrary machine code in the context of the affected application. Failed exploit attempts will result in denial-of-service conditions.

Affected Products:

  • Apple Safari 3.0.2 Beta for Windows
