Title: Ace-FTP Client Structured Exception Handler Overwrite Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
Ace-FTP is an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) application designed for use on the Microsoft Windows platform.
The application is prone to a remote buffer-overflow vulnerability because it fails to properly bounds-check server-supplied input before copying it to an insufficiently sized memory buffer.
If the server passes the client a large buffer that contains a string that exceeds 4112 bytes, a pointer to the next SEH record is overwritten. An additional four bytes can overwrite the structured event handler, potentially allowing an attacker to execute arbitrary code in the context of the affected application. Failed exploit attempts will likely result in a denial-of-service condition.
NOTE: A malicious server triggers this vulnerability by sending an inordinately large amount of data to the affected client upon successful connection to the server. As a result, a buffer overflow occurs in the vulnerable software.
This issue affects Ace-FTP 1.24a; other versions may also be affected.
Affected Products:
- Visicom Media Ace-FTP Client 1.24a
