Title: Datawizards FtpXQ Directory Traversal Vulnerability

Severity: LOW

Description:

FtpQX is a ftp daemon designed to provide ftp services for Microsoft Operating Systems. The software package has been written for Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT/2000. It is maintained and distributed by Datawizard Technologies.

This software package contains a problem that could allow users to access and retrieve files outside of the FTP root directory. This problem is attributed to the insufficent checking of input.

The ftp server functions as a normal ftp daemon, hosting files for remote users to download. However, by preappending dots to a get request, it is possible to retrieve a file outside of the intended directory. It is currently unknown whether this affects files above the ftp root directory, or files on the entire system.

The ftp GET request preappended with two dots (..) will traverse to the next directory above the current working directory without restriction, and retrieve the specified file.

Affected Products:

  • DataWizard FtpXQ 2.0.93
