Title: Avira Antivir Tar Archive Handling Remote Denial Of Service Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

Avira Antivir Antivirus is a multiplatform antivirus application available for Microsoft Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, and Sun Solaris.

Avira Antivir is prone to a denial-of-service vulnerability because it fails to handle certain TAR archives.

Few technical details are currently available. We will update this BID as more information emerges.

Remote attackers may exploit this issue by enticing victims into opening maliciously crafted TAR archives.

A successful attack may allow attackers to cause the application to fall into an infinite loop, exhausting CPU resources. This will result in a denial-of-service condition.

Affected Products:

  • AVIRA AntiVir Engine
  • AVIRA Antivir 6.35.00.00
