Title: Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Project Company Name Denial of Service Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 is a development platform for building applications on Microsoft platforms.
Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 is prone to a denial-of-service vulnerability because the application fails to bounds-check user-supplied data before copying it into an insufficiently sized buffer. Specifically, the issue occurs when the application processes a long project 'Company Name' field. An attacker can trigger this issue by supplying excessive data through the affected field, but the vulnerability arises only when the 'Company Name' is manually viewed in the Project Property menu.
The attacker can exploit this issue to cause a denial-of-service condition. The attacker may also be able to execute arbitrary code within the context of the affected application, but this has not been confirmed.
Affected Products:
- Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0
