Title: Chili!Soft ASP Remote World-Readable System Files Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

ChiliSoft ASP (CASP) is a cross-platform Active Server Pages implementation for Linux and other platforms including Lotus Domino, Apache, HP-UX, AIX and others.

The Chili!Soft ASP installation process creates and sets many sensitive files world-readable (mode 666), including files containing user and administration passwords and other information. A remote attacker could potentially request these files via a URL submitted to the server.

Examples of affected files include:

http://<server>/caspsamp/codebrws.asp?source=/caspsamp/../admin/conf/service.pwd
http://<server>/caspsamp/codebrws.asp?source=/caspsamp/../global_odbc.ini
http://<server>/caspsamp/codebrws.asp?source=/caspsamp/../admin/logs/server
http://<server>/caspsamp/codebrws.asp?source=/caspsamp/../LICENSE.LIC
http://<server>/caspsamp/codebrws.asp?source=/caspsamp/../logs/server-3000

This information could be exploited by a local attacker to gain an elevation of privilege and further compromise the host's security, potentially including root.

Affected Products:

  • Chilisoft ChiliSoft ASP for Linux 3.0.0
  • Chilisoft ChiliSoft ASP for Linux 3.5.0
  • Chilisoft ChiliSoft ASP for Linux 3.5.2
