Title: LICQ Remote Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
At least one version of LICQ is vulnerable to a remote buffer overflow attack.
By sending many characters to the port on which LICQ is listening (normally port 1100 or higher), an attacker can cause an overflow of the relevant input buffer.
As a result, excessive data copied onto the stack can overwrite critical parts of the stack frame such as the calling functions' return address. Since this data is supplied by the user it can be designed to alter the program's flow of execution.
The number of characters required to successfully exploit this vulnerability may depend on the exact OS and LICQ configuration being attacked.
Affected Products:
- LICQ LICQ 0.85.0
- LICQ LICQ 1.0.1
- LICQ LICQ 1.0.2
