Title: PGP4pine Encryption Failure Vulnerability

Severity: LOW

Description:

pgp4pine is an implementation-independent PGP interface for the Pine email client.

When used in conjunction with Gnu Privacy Guard (GPG/GnuPG), version 1.75-6 of pgp4pine fails to check for public keys which have expired. When a user attempts to encrypt a message with pgp4pine and GPG, and specifies an expired public key, GPG fails the encryption and generates an error message.

The affected version of pgp4pine fails to abort the encryption process. Instead, the message is transmitted unencrypted, without the user being alerted.

As a result, the user's message may be intercepted and read.

Affected Products:

  • Holger Lamm pgp4pine 1.75.6
