Title: Trend Micro Virusbuster 2001 Remote Command Execution Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

A vulnerability exists in Trend's Virusbuster 2001, an antivirus product for distribution in Japan.

Mail User Agent is a component of Virusbuster supporting the "eMail Virus Scanning" feature by importing mail through POP3. The MUA can be forced to crash by a buffer overflow condition triggered when the program receives an email containing exceptionally long strings in the MIME Boundary header field.

The result of this overflow is a denial of service.

Properly exploited, it could lead to the remote execution of arbitrary code on the affected host.

Affected Products:

  • Trend Micro Virusbuster 2001 8.0.1
