Title: Linksys SPA941 \377 Character Denial of Service Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
Linksys SPA941 phones are VOIP-enabled telephony products.
Linksys SPA941 phones are prone to a remote denial-of-service vulnerability. The problem occurs when handling SIP messages containing the character '\377'.
If '\377' appears in unspecified areas of the FROM header in SIP traffic, the phone may spontaneously reboot. Reportedly, by changing the location of '\377' in SIP packets, an attacker can influence the content of SIP reply messages generated by the phone. The discoverers of this issue believe that the flaw resembles a format-string vulnerability; Symantec has not confirmed this.
Exploiting this issue allows remote attackers to cause the device to reboot, effectively denying service to legitimate users.
Linksys SPA941 with firmware version 5.1.5 is vulnerable; other versions may be affected as well.
Affected Products:
- Linksys SPA941 VoIP Phone
