Title: LanDesk Management Suite Alert Service AOLSRVR.EXE Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: CRITICAL

Description:

LANDesk Management Suite is an application that automates systems/security management tasks. It is available for Microsoft Windows.

LANDesk Management Suite is prone to a remote stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability because it fails to bounds-check user-supplied data before copying it into an insufficiently sized buffer. This issue occurs in the Alert Service listening on UDP port 65535. Specifically, the 'Aolsrver.exe' process attempts to copy user-supplied data into a 268-byte memory buffer without checking the length of the data.

An attacker can exploit this issue to execute arbitrary code with SYSTEM-level privileges. Successfully exploiting this issue would result in the complete compromise of affected computers. Failed exploit attempts will result in a denial of service.

This issue affects LANDesk Management Suite 8.7; prior versions may also be affected.

Affected Products:

  • LANDesk Software LANDesk Management Suite 8.7
