Title: wwwwais.c Heap Overflow Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
At least one heap overflow vulnerability exists in wwwwais.c, a CGI WAIS interface.
When user-supplied input argumenting the GET command exceeds the maximum anticipated length, it is possible for a local attacker to overflow the input buffer.
This can allow excessive input to be written past the boundary of the allocated space on the heap.
As a result, if certain internal memory structures can be successfully overwritten, it may be possible to execute a denial of service attack, or even to execute arbitrary commands with the privilege level of the webserver.
Affected Products:
- wwwwais wwwwais.c 2.5.0c
