Title: HP-UX SLSD Remote Arbitrary File Creation Vulnerability

Severity: CRITICAL

Description:

SLSd is a Single Logical Screen daemon for HP-UX, a UNIX distribution from HP.

HP-UX running SLSd is prone to a remote arbitrary-file-creation vulnerability.

This issue stems from a design error in the 'SLSd_daemon' RPC daemon. A remote attacker can exploit this issue by sending a specially crafted request to have the daemon create arbitrary files with superuser privileges on a vulnerable computer. This issue occurs when 'SLSD_DAEMON = 1' is present in the '/etc/rc.config.d/slsd' file.

A successful exploit can result in the complete compromise of affected computers.

Affected Products:

  • HP HP-UX B.11.11
