Title: SSC DiskAccess NFS Client DAPCNFSD.DLL Stack Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: CRITICAL

Description:

Shaffer Solutions Corp DiskAccess is an application for accessing NFS-based files and printers on UNIX and mainframe hosts.

The application is prone to a stack-based buffer-overflow vulnerability because it fails to properly bounds-check user-supplied data before copying it into an insufficiently sized memory buffer.

Specifically, the vulnerability resides in the 'EnumPrintersA()' function in the 'dapcnfsd.dll' dynamic link library. If an attacker passes an excessively large string argument, memory will be overwritten and become corrupted as a result of a stack-based buffer overflow.

An attacker can exploit this issue to execute arbitrary code within the context of the Spooler service. The Spooler service typically runs with the privileges of the 'LocalSystem' account.

Affected Products:

  • Shaffer Solutions Corp DiskAccess
