Title: Apple CFNetwork HTTP NULL Pointer Dereference Denial of Service Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

CFNetwork is part of the Core Services framework in Mac OS X. It provides a 'library of abstractions' to common network protocols and tasks.

CFNetwork is prone to a denial-of-service vulnerability.

Specifically, the vulnerability occurs in client applications using the vulnerable CFNetwork API. A specifically crafted HTTP response can cause the '_CFNetConnectionWillEnqueueRequests()' function to dereference a NULL pointer. This causes a denial-of-service condition in client applications that make use of the CFNetwork library.

Since this condition is caused by malformed HTTP responses, the direction of travel for the denial of service if from server to client.

Attackers may exploit this issue by issuing a maliciously designed HTTP response to a client application that uses the affected framework.

Successful exploits will result in denial-of-service conditions within client applications.

CFNetwork 129.19 on Mac OS X 10.4.8 is vulnerable to this issue.
