Title: Apple WebKit WebCore Remote Denial of Service Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

WebKit is an open-source system framework and browser engine used in many Apple products such as Safari, Dashboard, and Mail.

Apple WebKit is prone to a denial-of-service vulnerability.

Specifically, the vulnerability occurs in the 'ArrayImpl ()' function in the '/platform/ArrayImpl.cpp' when processing an excessively large 'ROWSPAN' HTML tag. If the 'ROWSPAN' HTML tag value is excessively large, the framework will mishandle its value, resulting in a NULL-pointer exception.

Attackers may exploit this issue by enticing victims into opening a malicious HTML document with an application using the affected framework.

Successful exploits will result in denial-of-service conditions.

Applications using WebKit build 18794 are vulnerable to this issue.

Affected Products:

  • Apple Mac OS X 10.4.8
  • Apple Mac OS X Server 10.4.8
  • Apple Safari 2.0.4
  • Apple WebKit build 18794
  • Omni Group OmniWeb 5.5.3
