Title: Apple Mac OS X AppleTalk _ATPsndrsp Function Remote Heap Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: CRITICAL

Description:

AppleTalk is a suite of network protocols that were developed by Apple.

Apple Mac OS X AppleTalk is prone to a heap-overflow vulnerability. This issue occurs because the server fails to perform sufficient boundary checks on user-supplied data before copying it into an insufficiently sized buffer. Specifically, the '_ATPsndrsp' function is affected.

An attacker could leverage this issue to have arbitrary code execute with administrative privileges. A successful exploit could result in the complete compromise of the affected system.

Apple Mac OS X version 10.4.8 is reported vulnerable; other versions may be vulnerable as well.

Affected Products:

  • Apple Mac OS X 10.4.8
  • Apple Mac OS X Server 10.4.8
